Measure the furniture and the tightest parts of the exit path before pickup day. A piece can fit through the front door and still fail at a hallway turn, stair landing or elevator.
Four measurements to take
- The item’s widest, tallest and deepest points.
- The clear opening of each doorway, not the trim-to-trim wall width.
- The narrowest hallway and the space available to turn.
- Stair width, landing depth and overhead clearance.
Empty drawers and cabinets. Remove loose shelves and secure doors where practical. Ask the crew before attempting disassembly that could damage the item or property.
